Handmade Paper
The paper casting process is an application of ideas from both painting and sculpture. Pigments are applied directly to cotton pulp creating unique mixtures of dyed paper. This paper pulp is hand cast directly on to the woodblock essentially creating a unique drawing with colored pulp. The surface of the block carving transfers to the paper through the drying process leaving texture in the paper surface similar to sculptural casting processes. The paper castings are left to dry completely and later printed in a separate step using a traditional etching press.
"Paper casting allows for the exploration of color, texture and extreme variations within a traditional woodcut print."
